Farewell Message from Principal Higgins

Dear Ralph Bunche School Families and Community Partners,

 It has been my true privilege to serve as principal of the Ralph Bunche School for the past ten years. I can honestly say that my time here has been full of blessings. We have grown immensely, we have built deep relationships, and we have learned alongside each other as students, staff, parents, and community partners. We have created a culture of growth that is talked about throughout Harlem and the surrounding communities. When people hear about the RBS, the reputation is full of kindness, compassion, innovation, and FAMILY.

 The RBS has been an excellent place to work! Over the past ten years, we have built a platform that has allowed innovative teaching practices that embrace 21st century skills, progressive values, and tools for our students. We have grown a strong community that has come together over hardships and has celebrated much.

 After much thought, personal reflection, and professional guidance, I have accepted the position of Deputy Superintendent in Community School District #2. It is a position that aligns deeply with what I believe and a great forward step in a career that is built on a love for learning and seeing kids grow.

 Saying goodbye is never easy; however, I have full confidence in the shared mission and vision we have established here at the RBS. I have been humbled by how the RBS community has embraced me as a leader, and I am so grateful for the people and ideas you have entrusted in my care.

 I am moving on, but the shared RBS mission and vision continues to be strong. Yael Leopold, a fellow parent and educator with tremendous zeal, passion and love for our community will be the Acting Principal of RBS upon my departure. Ms. Leopold has a long history of serving students in various roles, most presently as the Early Childhood Director as a part of the District 5 Superintendent’s Team. We welcome her to RBS in her new role!

 The Ralph Bunche School is stronger than it has ever been in its history and continues to grow because of your active support. As I step out of this role, I will take the RBS spirit with me and I will close by saying what I say to our students…. “I wish you that you are safe. I wish that you are happy. I wish that you are kind. I wish that you are loved.   I wish that you are free. I wish that you are at peace.”

Estimadas familias y socios comunitarios de la escuela Ralph Bunche:

 Ha sido un verdadero privilegio servir como director de la Escuela Ralph Bunche durante los últimos diez años. Honestamente puedo decir que mi tiempo aquí ha estado lleno de bendiciones. Hemos crecido enormemente, hemos construido relaciones profundas y hemos aprendido juntos como estudiantes, personal, padres y socios de la comunidad. Hemos creado una cultura de crecimiento de la que se habla en todo Harlem y las comunidades circundantes. Cuando la gente se entera de la RBS, la reputación está llena de bondad, compasión, innovación y FAMILIA.

 ¡La RBS ha sido un excelente lugar para trabajar! Durante los últimos diez años, hemos construido una plataforma que ha permitido prácticas de enseñanza innovadoras que abarcan habilidades, valores progresivos y herramientas del siglo XXI para nuestros estudiantes. Hemos desarrollado una comunidad fuerte que se ha unido para superar las dificultades y ha celebrado mucho.

 Después de mucha reflexión, reflexión personal y orientación profesional, acepté el puesto de Superintendente Adjunto en el Distrito Escolar Comunitario # 2. Es una posición que se alinea profundamente con lo que creo y un gran paso adelante en una carrera que se basa en el amor por aprender y ver crecer a los niños.

 Decir adiós nunca es fácil; sin embargo, tengo plena confianza en la misión y visión compartida que hemos establecido aquí en RBS. Me ha honrado la forma en que la comunidad de RBS me ha acogido como líder y estoy muy agradecido por las personas y las ideas que han confiado a mi cuidado.

 Estoy avanzando, pero la misión y visión compartida de RBS siguen siendo sólidas. Yael Leopold, un padre y educador con tremendo celo, pasión y amor por nuestra comunidad, será el director interino de RBS cuando me marche. La Sra. Leopold tiene una larga historia de servicio a los estudiantes en varios roles, la mayoría actualmente como Directora de Primera Infancia como parte del Equipo del Superintendente del Distrito 5. ¡Le damos la bienvenida a RBS en su nuevo rol!

 La Escuela Ralph Bunche es más fuerte que nunca en su historia y continúa creciendo gracias a su apoyo activo. Al salir de este rol, llevaré el espíritu de RBS conmigo y terminaré diciendo lo que les digo a nuestros estudiantes…. “Te deseo que estés a salvo. Deseo que seas feliz. Deseo que seas amable. Deseo que seas amado. Deseo que seas libre. Deseo que estés en paz ".
