Administration

Principal I.A., Reginald Higgins

In 2002, Reginald Higgins embarked on his professional career as an elementary teacher at Horace E. Greene Elementary School (P.S. 45K) where he had the privilege of working in first through fifth grades.  This experience has been a priceless gift that has provided him with the expertise in curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy in elementary school.  As he quotes:

“I became an administrator because I am passionate about education and I love to teach.  True leadership happens in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria and playground; management happens in offices. One of the most important tasks of an elementary school principal is to assure that all students are provided a quality instructional program.  A key component of that task is developing knowledge about instruction and gaining expertise as a teacher.  I believe that extensive teaching is a requisite for effective instructional leadership.  As an instructional leader I am modeling, learning, connecting and relationship building with staff to support the work they do inside their classrooms with our children.”

After having successful experiences in instruction as a teacher Mr. Higgins joined the New York City Leadership Academy, Aspiring Principal Program Cohort 8.  In this position he was responsible for supporting over twenty classrooms at The School of Higher Expectations (C.S. 66X) and the Dual Language School for International Studies (P.S. 24K).  He also planned and implemented professional development activities for these schools.

Mr. Higgins is a true visionary, teacher, and leader! With his emphasis on relationship building, he has developed many outstanding teachers and staff.  He has implemented and directed curriculum and instructional programs that are aligned to the Common Core Standards.

Mr. Higgins has led his highly qualified staff through the process of reflection and the utilization of “Best Practices” as they continue to enhance their own learning through superior professional development opportunities that Mr. Higgins oversees and provides.

On a personal note:

All of the experiences that I have had prepared me for the biggest challenge in my career as an educator.  When I left the classroom, I always felt a longing to return and to be a part of the day-to-day operations of a school.  Working at the Ralph Bunche School will be a rewarding opportunity.  This is my calling.  I am grateful to begin work with a staff of highly motivated and caring professionals and it will be an honor to work with the community, parents, and students at our school.

Mr. Higgins received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Morehouse College.  He received a Masters of Science in Teaching from Pace University and he received a Masters in Education Administration from Baruch College.
